We called the Modern Group to get a quote on Roller shutters for our windows as our home was broken into a few days prior. The sales man Bradley Rix turned up and measured the windows and then practically forced us into signing a contract. We told him we wanted to get another quote and he said we supply to all the other companies so theirs would be the cheapest and that the other companies couldn't supply certain things. Part of the terms were that they would supply finance for part of the payment amount. The finance was declined by the lender and then he tried to get me to try another finance company which also fell through. He tried a better price and said that it was almost cost price and that the only way to do that price was to let them advertise on our home. We didn't pay the deposit. I told him that we would need to wait to see if we could afford it. He left and rang back a day later telling us he would be able to slash the price further if they could advertise and I said we'll see. he said he needed an answer then and there. I said I'll have to check with my wife. I rang them the day after and told him that we couldn't afford it and that we would like to cancel. He said we still needed to pay the 10% deposit as a cancellation fee. No one actually came out to do a final measure and no product was given to us nor did they start production on it. I sent them a fax to make it formal. We also got another Quote from Apollo Blinds and they were very professional and their quote was half of what Modern could offer and they didn't even ask if they could advertise. They also offered the same equipment that Modern said only they had. Bradley from Modern called back with his manager and asked me how much I could afford, I said $1500 and they dropped their price by half and asked me to keep it to my self just to make the $1500. I told them I would have to speak to my wife and then the manager said but you said you could afford $1500. I told him I said Icould afford it but I have to make sure my wife agree's and he said we'll call you back shortly. They called back within 5 minutes and I told them I hadn't spoken to my wife. I asked them to call back either in the evening or in the next day. They called the next day and I told them we couldn't afford it. He said ok no problem and hung up. Today (2 days later) I checked my credit card and they had charged me the 10% of the original quote of $3828. I rang the sals man Bradley and he said that that was the cancellation fee. I told him I wanted it returned and he said it can't be done. I will fight this untill I get all my money back from them and charge them any money I have to spend to get it back.
Don't ever buy from the Modern Group. They are the biggest ripoffs and they are theives for taking my money. There is no where in the contract that states that I had to pay the deposit if I cancel and it clearly states that they were going to organise finance.......
